Hurricane Harvey Relief

Excel 12: Water Fun!

The Pre-K children had a blast the other day making bubble snakes! Simply take a cup, cut off the end and wrap a piece of fabric (tights, wash cloth, etc.) on that end with a rubber band and watch the bubbles form a long snake like creation! Continue Reading

Excel 12–STEM Camp

Relay for Life 2016 Recap


Although a few weather-related issues kept some of the crowd away at this year’s Relay for Life event in New Bern, the rainy weather didn’t dampen Excel’s enthusiasm! Staff members from Craven and Carteret county locations, spent the day at Grover C. Fields Middle School, leading children in arts & crafts activities to help “Paint the World Purple”, while walking laps around the track in support of Cancer victims and survivors. Excel 4: Space Week

Excel 4: Arctic Animals


Arctic animal unit was awesome at Morehead City’s Excel 4.  Ms. Tiffany’s class drew a life size polar bear, then measured each other against it. This helped the students visualize how large the bears really were! This topic lead into learning about endangered animals and extinct animals and their habitats. Excel 4: Save our Planet


Ms. Tiffany’s class had a great time learning about how important it is to take care of the Earth. This discussion started after the study of endangered animals. The children were concerned and wanted to know what was happening to the animals. This lead to a discussion about how our planet is polluted and how we were destroying the animal’s habitats. The class watched a video on the Great Pacific Garbage patch and then another feature about the “Sea Bin”, a new invention that helps clean the water.  We were proud of the kids excitement to make our planet a better ...
